Paton-Churdan and Ar-We-Va were postponed from opening the Class 1A Region 8 girls’ basketball tournament on Thursday night. That game has been rescheduled for 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10 in Westside, meaning four different varsity sports teams will be in action tomorrow. The P-C Rockets and AWV Rockets are both 9-11 and both members of the Rolling Valley Activities Conference. AWV won the first meeting 66-58.
Greene County’s girls’ basketball team opens Class 3A Region 8 action on Saturday night at 7 in Sac City vs. East Sac County. The Raiders are 9-11 and have lost six of their last seven games. The Rams are 5-15 and have dropped seven straight heading into the postseason. We’ll broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com with tip off at 7 p.m.
The Greene County boys’ basketball team will try for a fourth time this season to play at non-conference opponent Winterset. It’s scheduled for a ninth grade game at 11 a.m., followed by a JV contest, then the varsity game around 2 p.m. Coach Chris Nelson’s Rams have a short turnaround as they enter Class 2A District 15 action on Monday, Feb. 12 at 6:30 p.m. vs. Panorama at Woodward at 6:30 p.m. Woodward-Granger hosts ACGC’s Chargers in Monday night’s second game around 8 p.m.
Saturday is District wrestling tournament day as individuals attempt to punch their tickets to the State Tournament Feb. 15-17 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. Junior Brock Wuebker at 170 lbs. will represent Greene County in a 2A District at Harlan. Junior Clint Dennhardt at 182 lbs. won his weight class at the Winterset Sectional last Saturday, but contracted a skin disease and won’t be wrestling. ADM, Winterset, and Woodward-Granger are among the 11 teams represented at Harlan on Saturday.
