After current District 20 Representative Clel Baudler announced his retirement, Greenfield’s Ray “Bubba” Sorensen announced his intent to take Baudler’s seat in the Iowa House. The “Freedom Rock” artist and businessman became the first official candidate to submit his nomination for this fall’s election.
While Sorensen has addressed several concerns currently being discussed in the state legislature, he places particular emphasis on veterans affairs. “I would love to be able to serve our veterans. I just want to make sure that veterans have all the access to information and, most importantly, healthcare that they deserve and require.”
Sorensen had a chance to serve veterans in that capacity by designing a cornerstone for a therapy garden at the VA Hospital in Des Moines. He describes his thoughts behind the design. “On one side I have a combat rescue and treatment and on the flip side there’s a veteran that’s a double amputee learning to walk again. Then on one of the other sides, an older veteran standing next to and smiling with a nurse, symbolizing the great healthcare that I hope we continue to provide for our veterans in the state.”
