Guthrie Center SignThe Guthrie Center City Council met in regular session Monday.

The Park and Recreation Board presented the latest developments in plans to renovate Mitchell Park. While there are many components to the project, one of the most important is improving and replacing the restroom and bathhouse facilities. The Council agreed to move forward with that particular aspect first and will review a needs assessment, along with an estimated cost to complete that phase. Those decisions are expected to be made at the next council meeting. The Board also plans on applying for a Guthrie County Community Foundation grant to be used towards resurfacing the basketball and tennis courts.

The Council also approved the first reading of an ordinance to remove time constraints from City sidewalk ordinances. This provision would make the ordinance similar to Stuart’s, which also has no specific timeline on removing snow and ice. The second reading is expected to be approved  at the next meeting, with an option to waive the third reading if there is no public objection.

Finally, the Council reviewed guidelines from Compliance Officer Wes Clark for mowing and snow removal contracts. Discussions will continue at the next meeting. The City is also currently taking bids on the removal of salvage items from a property. For more information, contact City Hall.
