Today marks day one of the three day wrestling extravaganza at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines known as the Iowa High School State Tournament. All three Raccoon Valley Radio stations, as well as www.raccoonvalleyradio.com will have extensive coverage on a play-by-play basis of area wrestlers in Classes 1A, 2A, and 3A. Coverage begins at 8:30 a.m. today with the first matches starting at 9 in Class 2A. Class 3A coverage starts at 1 p.m. with 2A coverage beginning at 5:30 p.m. In all three sessions, first round matches will be followed by first round consolation matches. Every wrestler is guaranteed at least two matches, but two losses today puts an end to that individual’s tournament. First round winners go to tomorrow quarterfinals, while those that lose their first match, but win their second, will advance to the second consolation round.
