Tomorrow is the 2018 All-State Large Group Speech Festival at Iowa State University, and it will be your last chance to check out the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn choral reading group.
The group is made up of 15 juniors and seniors who have been performing together for three years. Last year they made it to All-State as non-performing, and ADM Speech Coach Jacque Seidl says they worked hard this year for the honor of performing. Their piece is called “The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore,” which is adapted from a children’s book about the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Seidl says she found it and thought it would be a great piece for the choral reading group, and they took it and ran with it.
She adds, it was a great year for large group speech at ADM, and the choral reading group performing at All-State will be the well-deserved cherry on top. The team had over 90 participants this year, and Seidl is hopeful that even more students will see the benefits of speech contest. “I just love what speech represents. That there are so many different categories, so many different ways for you to find your niche. And you have such an amazing, supportive family behind you. And I’m just so proud to be their coach.”
The All-State Festival will begin tomorrow at 8 a.m. in Stephens Auditorium at ISU with the opening ceremonies. The ADM choral reading group will perform at 12:10 p.m. in Stephens Auditorium. Cost to attend the All-State Festival is $8 per person, and will allow you to view any performance you choose. To see a full schedule of events for the festival, click the link below.
