On opening day of the the 2018 IHSAA State Wrestling Tournament, the last Charger grappler left standing closed out the campaign. Freshman Seth Danker (106) came up short in both matches, and ended his season in the opening round of consolation matches.
Danker began the night with a 15-3 Major Decision defeat to Sigourney-Keota’s Mason Dye. Dye, a returning state qualifier and top ten wrestler in both The Predicament and IAWreslte, came into the match with a record of 46-4. In the opening round of consolation action, Denver’s Brooks Meyer defeated Danker quickly by fall at 50 seconds. Meyer, another freshman making his first appearance at the state tournament, entered the match with a record of 39-9.
Danker ends his first varsity season at 33-13, becoming the first freshman from ACGC to qualify to the state tournament. Danker finished in second place at the Sectional and District tournaments and won the Riverside Invitational this season.
