West Central Valley Wildcat

West Central Valley wrestler Alex Wells (285) says he prefers grappling from the bottom of the referee’s position. “My favorite position is on the bottom,” Wells said, “It’s always been, and it’s something I’m comfortable with; I’m more comfortable on the ground.”

Wells comfort zone on the mat helped get him to Wells Fargo Arena initially, and it’s the reason he’s competing today in day two of the Iowa State Wrestling tournament from Des Moines. Wells, who opened the tournament losing by second-period pinfall, won his consolation match by pinfall early in the third. His consolation match against Bedford-Lenox Kyler Christensen ended 40 seconds into the final period when Wells went between Christensen’s legs and put him on his back to advance.

The Wildcats heavyweight wrestler will await his next match against the loser the championship quarterfinal between Denver’s Brock Farley and Manson-NW Webster’s Enrique Maravilla. The Raccoon Valley Radio Network continues it’s live coverage today from the Iowa State Wrestling tournament in Des Moines.
