The lone girls’ basketball team from the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference has advanced to the Class 3A State Tournament semifinals. The North Polk (Alleman) Comets (22-3) defeated Assumption of Davenport 64-47 yesterday in the quarterfinals at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines and will play top ranked and undefeated Crestwood (Cresco) (24-0) on Thursday.

The Comets handily defeated Greene County twice during the conference season, including a Dec. 15 meeting at Wells Fargo Arena.

Heart of Iowa all-conference selections will be released once the NP season has been completed. The Rams were 5-16 overall and 2-12 in the conference, good for seventh place in the eight team league.
