Several area students are moving on to the State Individual Speech Competition after competing last Saturday at the District Competition.

The Perry and Adel-DeSoto-Minburn speech teams traveled to Boone High School to compete in individual events. For Perry, 17 students participated in 24 entries, with 14 of them advancing to State. Four students, including Kaylynn Bousman, Rylynn Gilmore, Ainsley Marburger, and Madison Mason, will be taking two different entries to State. The ADM team also advanced 14 entries to state, with Abby Mullen, Emily Pottebaum, Rachel Suarez, and Nathan Wedemeyer each qualifying in two events. In order to advance to State, participants needed to receive a “I” rating from their judge at Districts.

The State Competition will be on March 10th at Nevada High School. It is open to the public, with a $3 suggested donation to gain entry. All proceeds go to the host school. Those who receive “I” ratings and judge’s recommendations at State will advance to All-State, held on Monday, March 26th at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.
