Greene County boys’ basketball head coach Chris Nelson reports the 2017-18 Rams set several records during the Rams’ 12-11 season. The records are for the six seasons the Rams have played as Greene County High School.
Among the team records are most assists in a season at 299, assist to turnover ratio at 1.1, and rebounds in a season at 667. The coach told Raccoon Valley Radio the assists were not a surprise for him because the Rams were guard-oriented, and they returned quite a bit of experience in the ball handling positions. Coach Nelson said the rebounding surprised him a bit more because of the players receiving the bulk of playing time, the only player taller than 6′ 1″ was 6′ 4″ senior Wade Adcock.
Individually, Adcock’s 461 rebounds for his career are a Greene County record, as are his 211 rebounds this season, and his average of 9.6 rebounds per game. Adcock also has the Greene County field goal percentage records for a season and career among those with enough attempts to qualify. He made 67.3% of shot attempts this season and 57.4% for his career. Adcock is second on the Greene County list in blocked shots in a season (24) and career (39) behind 2013 graduate Justin Ostrander, who had 51 blocks in the one season playing for Greene County.
Current junior Trey Hinote ranks high on the Greene County single season and career lists in a number of offensive categories behind 2017 graduate Trey Tucker, who holds 16 Greene County records. Hinote passed Tucker this season in at least one category- the number of three-point field goals made in a season at 71.
The Rams hold a season ending awards night on Sunday, March 4 in the high school theater at 6:30 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.
