Offseason workouts for athletes tend to involve weightlifting, injury rehab, and maybe some cross training. However, four Charger athletes recently participated in an offseason workout of the mind. Matthew Hanner, Genevieve Hoover, Noah Nelsen, and Sam Madsen made up the 2nd place team at the West Central Activities Conference Academic Team Competition.

The competition is a quiz bowl format with questions covering several topics. Nelsen finished in the top 15 at the Class 1A Cross Country meet last fall and is a member of the basketball and baseball teams. Hoover set the Charger basketball record for most three pointers in a game and three-point percentage this last season, while also competing in volleyball and softball. Madsen participates in basketball and baseball, while Hanner swims for the Carroll Tigers.

Des Moines Christian won the competition.
