A recently released study shows Greene County Medical Center generated over $25 million for Greene County’s economy.
According to the Iowa Hospital Association economic impact study from 2017, the medical center generated a total of $25,322,994 to the local economy, while medical center employees spent $3,022,000 on retail sales within the county and contributed $181,359 in state sales tax revenues. All three figures are an increase over 2016, including $580,000 overall.
Greene County Medical Center CEO Carl Behne says this type of impact plays an important role for them in Greene County. He adds that while providing quality and compassionate care is their top priority, he and the medical center are proud of their economic impact in the county.
The annual report from IHA looks at the jobs, income, retail sales and sales tax produced by hospitals and the rest of the state’s health care. The Iowa Hospital Association is a voluntary membership organization representing hospital and health system interests to business, government and consumer audiences. All of Iowa’s 118 community hospitals are IHA members.
