The 2018 yard waste pickup schedule for the City of Perry was recently approved, and there are some changes people should be aware of.
City Administrator Sven Peterson says the first thing they did was extend the pickup schedule further into the winter. Yard waste will be picked up on Wednesdays between April 4th and December 5th. Peterson explains, the City often extends the dates into December anyway, because it’s still being collected by residents until then. Additionally, going for a longer time allows the City to simplify the process for their crews. “One thing we did is, we removed the citywide yard waste pickups. We were having issues that just got to be a little bit too much. The crews were out picking up about 10 tons of yard waste on those citywide pickup days. So we extended that into December, and there’s still the possibility if the weather is nice into December and people are still dealing with yard waste, we could even add more on. But hopefully this will be good for us this year.”
Peterson adds, they did balance the pickup days between the north and south sides of Willis Avenue, so each section of the City will have an equal number of opportunities to dispose of their yard waste.
