Last Saturday, students from across Iowa participated in the State Individual Speech Competition, and a select few were chosen to continue their journey at the 2018 All-State Festival. Two of those chosen were from the Perry Speech Team.
Rylynn Gilmore and Breanna Penenger were announced Monday afternoon as All-State performers. Gilmore was chosen for her poetry piece, titled “Awakening,” while Penenger was selected for her solo musical theater piece, “Sixteen Bars.” In order to qualify for All-State, competitors had to receive an overall “I” rating at State, and also receive judge recommendations. All-State participants can be chosen as either performing or non-performing. Both Gilmore and Penenger were selected to be performers at the All-State Festival, which will be held on Monday, March 26th at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.
In addition to the two All-State selections, the Perry Speech Team overall had a good day Saturday at Nevada High School. Of the 13 entries that performed, eight received overall “I” ratings. See below for a full list of State results for the Perry Speech Team.
