Paton Churdan School SignOne Greene County area student recently qualified for the Iowa High School Speech Association Individual Events All-State Festival.

Paton-Churdan Speech Coach Stephanie Pace says Megan Carey qualified for All-State with her prose piece, “Mum on the Run” by Laura Mazza. Carey advances onto the All-State festival after earning three Division I-ratings from all three judges at last weekend’s state contest in Nevada. She also received an overall I-rating for musical theatre. The other P-C student who competed at state was Madi Minnehan. She received an overall Division II-rating for musical theatre and will not go onto All-State.

As for Greene County High School, Speech Coach Kelley Gray says they had seven entries earn a Division I-rating and three that received a Division II-rating. Arthur Bardole, Naomi Long, Kassie Lamoureux, Emma McColley, Josey Weaver all received Division I-ratings, while Natalie Payan earned two Division I-ratings.

Students qualify for All-State by receiving an overall I-rating, along with judge recommendations. The events that qualify for All-State are then broken down to performing and non-performing selections. Carey will get to perform her prose on Monday, March 26th at University of Northern Iowa.
