Today the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics celebrates Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) Day. Guthrie County Hospital in Guthrie Center has an onsite RDN.

RDN Carol Laughery shares what her job entails. “A Registered Dietitian Nutritionist is committed to improving health of patients, clients, and community members through food and nutrition. When you consult with an RDN, you know you are receiving guidance from an educated, trained, and trusted expert. A majority of the information and what we do as dietitians is to work with treatment and prevention of disease.”

This day coincides with National Nutrition Month. It was first celebrated in 2008 to bring awareness of the services these individuals provide. Laughery works mostly with individual clients, however she also contributes her expertise to hospital programs, including the Diabetes Support Group.
