District 47 Representative Chip Baltimore has decided to not run again for the Iowa House. He was first elected to the House in November 2010. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio he appreciates everyone who has shown their support while he’s served at the state house.

“I can’t be more thankful or grateful to the support and encouragement of everyone that has been very, very kind and gracious in support of me over all the years. I’ve made a lot of great friends. I truly believe that I’ve got the best district in the state.”

Baltimore has served on a number of committees, including serving as chair of the judiciary committee for five-and-a-half years. In January, Baltimore was charged with an OWI and a weapons violation. He pled guilty to the charges and was sentenced to probation. Baltimore notes that the incident wasn’t what pushed him into not running again, but rather, he made his decision months ago.

Today is the filing deadline for state offices. Running for the Republican ticket is Victoria Sinclair of Boone, while Democratic candidate David Weaver of Rippey and Libertarian Patrick Shaw of Boone are also running for the open seat.
