Entering his sixth season as the head girls track coach at Adel-Desoto-Minburn Community Schools, Bart Mueller says his team’s more balanced than it’s been in previous years in the running events. “At times, we’ve been a little short (runners) on the high distance end, the 1500 and 3000-meter run,” Mueller said, “I have a couple of girls, even freshman, who I think will help us in the 3000.”
Mueller adds the strength of his running events will continue to be in the sprints. ADM returns Class 3A’s state champion in the 100 and 200-meter dash last spring in Keaton Kester. Junior Sadie Jurgens, a two-time cross country state qualifier, highlights ADM’s distance runners. Jurgens has competed in 800 meter, and 1500 meter events during ADM’s indoor meets so far this season while freshmen Hannah Welch and Zoe Marckmann have represented ADM in the 3000-meter run. Mueller adds he’s seen an increase in athletes taking part in sprint relays and hurdle events in practice as well. The outdoor track season begins Monday for the ADM girls track squad as they’ll participate in the Earlham Early Bird Invitational.
