West Central Valley High School will usher in the first weekend of spring with this year’s spring musical. The students will perform “Band Geeks” tomorrow and Saturday at 7pm in the high school gym. The show chronicles the successes and failures of a high school band.

Musical Director Michael Gookin talks about his favorite part of the show. “I fell in love with it. The first time I listened to it the music is so diverse. There’s pop, there’s rock, there’s punk. It goes a lot of different genres.”

Senior Hailey Link, who plays the role of a flute player in this performance, says being in musicals at West Central Valley increased her confidence. “It helped me come out of my shell a lot, because I kind of have anxiety. So I thought maybe it would help a bit. I think I’m more talkative and obnoxious, but that’s fine.”

Junior Jacob Jones, who plays the Band Director and is performing in his first musical, echoed Link. “I think my favorite part is when people have their solos and they’re up on stage singing their song, it’s really inspiring. They put a lot of work into their songs and they try their best and it’s really great how they put it together.”

Tickets are $6 each and can be purchased at the door. To hear more about the show, listen to tomorrow’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County program.
