Once a year the Greene County Elementary students get to show-off their singing and dancing skills in front of their family and friends.

The annual spring concert was held Thursday at the middle school gym in Jefferson with the first through fourth graders. The theme was “Choose Kindness and Respect.” All of the songs and dance routines taught students, as well the audience members, how to be kind and respectful to each other. Lori Danner, Kevin Richards, Sue Turner and Susannah Cunningham co-organized this year’s event. Richards talked about his favorite part of coordinating such a big effort.

“We get to spend a lot of time together. This is Sue Turner’s last year, she’s retiring this year, so it means a little more to us than it has in the past. Sue and Lori work so hard on the music and the movement. I have it pretty easy where all I have to do is hang up some artwork and stuff.”

As for Turner, she said she is leaving the program on a high note.

“Well the kids seem to really love most of the songs that I pick out. Once in a while there’s one that they don’t like. But this year’s I think I picked a real good selection of songs. They all loved every one of them that I picked out and wanted to do them over and over again. So that was a real joy for me.”

Also new this year was having two separate shows with the first and second grades performing together and the third and fourth grades together. Pictures of the event can be found on the Raccoon Valley Radio Facebook page.
