The Greene County High School golf teams were to have started their 2018 seasons today, but cold temperatures have prompted school officials to call off the meets. The Rams were scheduled to meet Carroll high with the girls playing in Carroll, and the boys’ playing at the Jefferson Community Golf Course, but neither of those meets will be held today.

The Greene County girls were to have hosted Gilbert at The Hill tomorrow, but that has been postponed as well.

School officials are working on finding possible make up dates.

Heath Telleen is the girls’ coach for the Rams. Senior Rachael Danielson is a two-time State Meet qualifier who placed sixth in the Class 3A State Tournament in 2017. The coach told Raccoon Valley Radio he wasn’t sure how much Danielson would be playing, especially early in the season, due to repeated knee surgeries, including one this Winter. She continues to rehab the knee on a regular basis.

Dave Destival is the boys’ coach. Senior Elijah Block missed by one stroke each of the past two seasons from advancing from Sectional tournament play to the District. The Greene County coach said Block has played a lot of golf and believes the senior is poised for a big season.

Danielson and Block teamed up to finish sixth in the 2017 Coed State Golf Tournament last June. That event is normally dominated by the largest schools in Iowa, but the Greene County duo made their mark.
