Cold, wet weather has already cost the Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers boys track team two opportunities to compete in the last week and a half. The Tigers are hoping for favorable weather in Nevada tonight as the ADM boys squad is scheduled to compete in the Nevada Cub Co-Ed Invitational. Tonight’s meet will be the second time this spring the Tiger boys track team will compete outside, starting their outdoor season March 30 in the Husky Relays.
Last Friday’s competition saw ADM set three Raccoon River Conference time benchmarks. Junior Lucas Heitz won the Husky Relays’ 400-meter hurdles race, clocking a quarter-mile in 57.62 seconds. His performance is better than Carroll senior Brennan Bock’s top time of 57.90 seconds registered on March 20 at the Carroll Early Bird Meet. ADM’s 4×800 meter squad of senior Rylan Heffernan, sophomore Dylan Baker, junior Gustavs Klavis, and sophomore Braeden Hegarty produced a time of 8:46.98, besting the other conference schools by almost three seconds. Finally, the Tigers sprint medley crew of senior Trey Volz, Heitz, sophomore Colton Pirtle, and Heffernan clocked a mile collectively in 3:48.91, a full 11 seconds faster than any other Raccoon River Conference relay team.
Tonight’s Nevada Cub Co-Ed Invitational will feature athletes from Ballard, Gilbert, Nevada, North Polk, and Roland Story. First events start at 4:30 p.m. from Nevada High School.
