The cold, blustery start to the spring sports season in Iowa hasn’t kept the West Central Valley golf programs from competing in a pair of recent nine-hole events. The Wildcats began their season last Friday in Knoxville competing against the Panthers and the Clarke Indians at the Pine Knoll Country Club. West Central Valley also hosted a West Central Activities Conference triangular Monday against league members Van Meter and Woodward-Granger at the 5 x 80 Golf Course near Menlo. Senior Garrett Caltrider carded the Wildcats lowest score in both events, completing the Pine Knoll Country Club in 41 strokes and the 5x 80 Golf Course in 39. His performance Monday is currently the lowest nine-hole score carded among golfers inside Class 2A’s Lake Panorama District. Garrett’s younger brother, freshman Grant Caltrider, was the Wildcats’ second lowest golfer in both events, carding 46 and 47 strokes respectively. West Central Valley placed second as a team in their league triangular Monday, carding 193 strokes collectively. Van Meter won the meet with 191 strokes while Woodward-Granger placed third with 200 strokes. Weather permitting, the Wildcat golf programs return to competition at the 5 x 80 Golf Course today hosting golfers from Coon Rapids-Bayard in a nonconference dual meet. Tee time is 4 p.m.
