The Perry Lutheran Home hosted their annual Meals from the Heartland event Wednesday, and 300 volunteers showed up to pack more than 30,000 meals for those in need.
PLH Director of Marketing Mollie Clark felt the event went very well. She was pleased with the amount of volunteers who took part, which included PLH residents, service clubs, members of the community, and over 100 3rd-graders from Perry Elementary. Clark said the event had a positive impact on all participants, but she felt it was particularly rewarding for the residents. “The residents just love to do meaningful things for others. They still come here to live very purposeful lives, and meaningful lives. And this is just one way that they get to be amongst the community members and other kids, and just have a really good time working side-by-side with them.”
Meals from the Heartland was started as a way to engage the residents of the Perry Lutheran Home with members of the public, while also helping to feed the hungry. The meals packaged will feed a family of six, and are sent all around the world. Clark was thankful to everyone who provided both time and money to support this year’s event.
