acgcThe “Last Minute” Invitational at Van Meter Thursday provided the backdrop to a record breaking performance for junior Noah Nelsen in the 3200 meters. Nelsen ran 15 seconds faster than his previous personal best with a time of 10:01.22, which was also seven seconds faster than Guthrie Center’s Trevor Osen, who posted the original record in 2010. However, Nelsen wasn’t the only Charger to break a school record. Two more entries broke combined school records Thursday.

Gabe Rowley broke his own record in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.93. Rowley was less than three tenths of a second away from breaking the all time AC or GC record, set by Adair-Casey’s Matthew Vannatta in 2016. The 4×400 meter relay team also set a new fastest time for ACGC, clocking in at 3:42.00. The team composed of Caden Wardyn, Quenton Spack, Clay Billheimer, and Carter Schildberg still trails the record 2009 State Champion Guthrie Center Tigers quartet, who came across the line at 3:28.82.

Both boys and girls will next see the ovals on Tuesday in Earlham.
