Jefferson SirenTesting dates for Greene County’s storm sirens have been changed.

Emergency Management Coordinator Dennis Morlan says the sirens will be tested at 10am on the second and fourth Tuesdays each month from April through November. The sirens were tested on Saturdays, but Morlan notes that by switching the tests to run on a weekday, there are more people that are available to confirm that the sirens are functioning properly.

The Greene County E-911 Board recently hired a technician to check every siren in the county. Morlan says other than some backup battery replacements, the sirens were given an excellent bill of health. Morlan adds that the sirens can be activated by the law enforcement center, the county emergency management office, or each community can activate their own sirens. The sirens operate on AC electricity, but in cases of a power failure, they run on a back-up battery system for several minutes.
