The best weather of the season resulted in many season best performances for the Greene County track & field teams on Thursday.  The boys’ team was eighth among 16 teams in Des Moines at Saydel High School on Thursday with 43 points. Gilbert won the meet with 113 points and Des Moines East was second. Coach Chad Morton’s Rams did not win an event but Carter Morton was second in the high jump with a leap of 6′ 2″, equaling a career best. Noah Bowen was second in the 1,600 meter run with a career best time of 4:47.40. The Rams had five other top six finishes.

Coach Derek Merk’s girls were at Perry and the Rams were second among six teams. North Polk (Alleman) was first with 174 points and the Rams had 127. Webster City scored 85, followed by Perry 81, Roland-Story (Story City) 68, and 40 for Winterset. Greene County was first six times and had another six second place finishes. Megan Durbin won the high jump at 5′ 2″. Lilly Muir went 15′ 7″ to win the long jump. Makala Kafer won the 200 meter dash in :28.89, and Melanie Doran placed first in the 400 meter hurdles in 1:14.49. The Rams also won the 4 x 200 meter relay in 1:53.46 and the shuttle hurdle relay in 1:14.74. Doran, Kafer, Brianna Osterson, and Durbin were on the 4 x 200, with Doran, Sydney Schiltz, Izzy Bravard, and Muir running the shuttle hurdle relay.

Greene County hosts its annual Ram Relays on Monday at Linduska Field in Jefferson.
