A winter weather advisory has been issued for our primary coverage area.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Dallas and Guthrie counties until 1am tomorrow, while Greene County’s advisory is set to expire at 7pm tonight. The National Weather Service anticipates more snowfall to develop throughout the day today with one to three-inches possible in Dallas and Guthrie counties, and between two and four-inches in Greene County. Other possible hazards with the winter weather advisory include: a mix of precipitation causing slick road conditions and blowing snow which can reduce visibility on the roads.
The Iowa Department of Transportation reports some state roads in Guthrie and all state roads in Greene County are partially covered with slush. Greene County Secondary Roads Foreman Tanner Stauffer tells Raccoon Valley Radio county plow crews have been out since 6am clearing and treating the hard surface roads. While the ground has been warm enough to turn the freezing rain and sleet into slush, Stauffer notes it’s been fairly easy to clear off of the road. With another band of snow coming later today, Stauffer says plows crews will continue to clear the roads of snow. Motorists are reminded that when they encounter a plow truck, to give them plenty of space to clear the roads of ice and snow.
Raccoon Valley Radio’s Severe Weather Action Team provides cancellation and postponement information, as well as road condition updates during winter storm events.
