Just 48 hours after Greene County High School senior high jumper Megan Durbin automatically qualified for next week’s Drake Relays with a season best leap of 5′ 7″, she did one better on Thursday by clearing 5′ 8″. The leap equals her career best, which was set at the 2016 Drake Relays, which she won. Thursday’s performance was at Denison, which hosted the Carroll Tiger-Knight Relays due to renovations at Carroll Athletic Field. The Iowa State University recruit is in sole possession of the best high jump this season by an Iowa high school girl. She won Thursday’s high jump by eight inches and tied her own school record, as well as tying the all-time best by a female in a Jefferson-based program which she held. Durbin placed second in the 100 meter dash in 12.96 seconds, a personal best and Greene County school record. Those were the top finishes for the girls.
No Greene County boys had no finishes better than third. Colin Reed went 6′ 0″ in the high jump for third, with Colby Kafer third in the long jump at 19′ 0″ and he also was third in the 200 meter dash in :23.58. Carter Morton was third in the 110 meter high hurdles in :16.43, as was the 4 x 800 meter relay in 9:50.48.
The Greene County girls were sixth among eight teams and the Rams were last among seven boys’ teams.
