Several people in the Perry community filled the house of Alan and Monica Peitz Thursday evening to meet a candidate for United States Congress.
Eddie Mauro was the latest democratic candidate to visit Perry ahead of the June primary election. He is one of three remaining contenders for the democratic nomination for Iowa’s Third Congressional District, each of whom is seeking to unseat incumbent republican Congressman, David Young in the November general election. Mauro began the evening talking about his background, which includes his work with the AMOS Community Group, a non-profit advocacy organization in Des Moines. He also described his platform, and what he felt separates him from his fellow democratic candidates.
Attendees then asked a variety of questions, including on abortion, gun laws, taxes, immigration, and the environment, and he offered his opinions and solutions to the issues. The event concluded with a special appearance by Warren Varley of Stuart, the democratic candidate for the Iowa House of Representatives, District 20. The meet and greet was organized by the Perry Area Democrats. To learn more about Mauro, click the link below.
