The phenomenal start to the Panorama varsity girls soccer program (3-0 overall) continued in Panora Thursday evening. The Panthers welcomed the Greene County Rams to Panorama Stadium for a varsity doubleheader. A mixture of balanced scoring and playing team defense led the Panthers to an 8-0 victory over the Rams. Six Panthers scored at least one goal with freshmen sisters Audrey and Paige Cmelik scored two goals apiece. Senior Nicole Rolfes, junior Jaelyn Waddle, sophomore Anna Holloway, and freshman Ella Waddle registered one goal each for the Panthers. Panorama soccer players Jaelyn Waddle and Maise Knapp spoke to Raccoon Valley Radio after the match on the team’s undefeated start to the season. Waddle says team chemistry has been a huge factor, something they’ve gained from playing club soccer together. “We all got that bond together, and we’re all friends out there,” Waddle said, “We like to have fun and I think that helps our chemistry out on the field.”
The victory improves Panorama to 3-0 overall on the season, outscoring their opponents 28-0 in the process. The Panorama boys soccer team fell in the nightcap versus Greene County, 10-0, with the game called in the final two minutes of regulation due to Iowa’s 10 goal mercy rule. Sophomore goalie Kyle Cogil registered 17 saves for Panorama in the loss. The Panorama girls soccer team resumes their season in the Nevada tournament this weekend while the Panther boys soccer team returns to the field next Thursday hosting Treynor.
