The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.
The Board reviewed the master matrix scoring for two proposed hog confinement buildings in section 30 of Highland Township for John and Libby Towers. Their score was 455, while the Iowa Department of Natural Resources requires a minimum score of 440. It includes a closure plan and the closest neighbor is 2,420-feet, within the standards of the matrix. There will be a total of 4,992 hogs at the site. A public hearing is set for next Monday’s regular Supervisor meeting at 9am.
Next the Board approved to hire Eagle Ridge Tactical Consulting to do a risk assessment of the courthouse. It was based off the recommendation by the courthouse security committee, after exploring any free options to do the assessment and finding none exist. Supervisor Chair John Muir explained why the Board agreed to push forward with the assessment.
“This day and age, we all realize that the safety of public officials has changed, along with the employees of the courthouse. Rather than wait to react we started the process of looking at different things we can do to secure the safety of the courthouse and the people in it.”
The total estimated cost is $1,742 with funds to come from general services. The Board also approved the sheriff’s quarterly report of fees for January through March of $52,562.
Finally, the Board decided to contact engineering firm Brooks, Borg and Skiles about their three-year-old study of upgrading the courthouse amenities such as window replacement and the HVAC system.
