IMG_2361The Stuart City Council met in regular session Monday.

The Council reviewed the site plan for the expansion project at Casey’s General Store. The 4,000 square foot plan includes expanded semi-truck parking to the north of the current facility and a possible quick-serve restaurant. Casey’s would like to start the project this summer and estimates a year to complete.

Doug Beech, an attorney with Casey’s, believes their plan will work well with the Karl Chevrolet expansion plan. “What you see in front of you is a result of a lot of meetings, a lot of time, a lot of compromise to get us to this point. It’s taken us a while. We’ve worked with our good friend Carl Moyer (Karl Chevrolet Owner)to make sure our plans work with theirs. We think we’ve got a plan that we think can satisfy us, can satisfy Karl, (and) hopefully satisfy the City of Stuart.”

The Council referred the plan to the Planning and Zoning Board for approval. Moyer then updated the Council on the progress of the Karl Chevrolet expansion. Moyer says over $10 million will be spent on this project, he has hired a local contractor to begin the earthwork, and he hopes to start the project early next month.

The Council also approved a resolution authorizing the use of a preliminary official statement for the sale of general obligation annual appropriation refunding bonds and new sports complex rental guidelines as presented, with two modifications. The meeting concluded with two recommendations for Tax Increment Financing (TIF) allocation for local business owners. The Council submitted those recommendations to the City’s bond attorney for review.
