The Perry School District and its community partners are kicking their fundraising efforts into full gear for the Dewey Field renovation project, and in the coming weeks there are a pair of big events.
The first is this Friday from 5-7:30 p.m., as the Perry Hy-Vee hosts “Blue Jay Night.” The event will include activities for kids and families, including a dunk tank featuring coaches, principals, and other brave individuals willing to get soaked for the cause. There will also be a cookout and silent auction, and a special check presentation. Kids 12 and under can get free hot dogs, face painting, and temporary tattoos, and all athletes from Perry schools will eat free. Additionally, Hy-Vee will hold a round-up fundraiser throughout the weekend. All proceeds will benefit the renovation project. The second event, called “Go Big, Go Blue,” will be Friday, May 4th, at 6 p.m. at Hotel Pattee. It’s a ticketed event that will include music, games, silent and live auctions, and tasting of the hotel’s new menu items. Carol Van Kirk is one of the organizers for the event, and she and her family have been instrumental in getting the project off the ground. She explains why the renovation is important, and why people should aid the fundraising efforts. “This gives an opportunity for pride for everyone. When other people roll into our community, they’re going to see something special and know that we care about our kids, our school, and our community. It also provides an opportunity for our kids, encouraging them to be in activities. It will promote success for their future. And I just really like to help Perry any way that I can.”
Tickets for “Go Big, Go Blue” are $25 and can be purchased at Perry High School, Raccoon Valley Bank, or Hotel Pattee.
