Yesterday was arguably the busiest day in the spring sports season for ACGC, particularly on the oval. The Chargers sent two girls to the Drake Relays in Des Moines and hosted the 2018 Gonzales-Parrish Invitational in Guthrie Center.
Sophomore Kate Crawford and junior Mady McDermott both finished 16th in the 3000 meter run and Shot Put respectively. Crawford finished with a time of 10:45.48, about a minute behind champion Ellie Friesen of Crestwood. McDermott threw the second longest posted shot of her career, throwing 37-4.25. Tipton’s Jamie Kofron launched the longest throw of the day, reaching a mark of 45-5.50.
Back in Guthrie Center, Clay Billheimer continued to blaze through the record books, breaking teammate Noah Nelsen’s record and winning the 1600 meter run. The junior’s time of 4:39.23 is the fastest in AC and GC history, as well as the G-P Invite. Other top finishers on the boys side include: Dylan Soper in the 100, Billheimer in the 800, Nelsen in the 3200, Caden Wardyn in the long jump, and the shuttle hurdle relay team.
On the girls side, Emma Swanson and Lauryn Embleton went 1-2 in the 3000 for the second time at home this season. Both also claimed season-bests with times of 11:23.21 and 11:45.35 respectively. Other top finishers on the girls side include: Mady Smith in the 100 meter hurdles, Sara Schmeling in the long jump, and the distance medley team.
The boys finished 2nd and the girls finished 3rd in the team standings. IKM-Manning won both team titles.
