The Panora City Council met in regular session Monday.
Susanne Gerlach with Public Financial Management discussed possible rate increases to City utilities for the upcoming fiscal year. Gerlach recommends a 5% increase to water and a 3% increase to sewer rates. This would increase water bills by $2.65 and sewer bills by $0.58 per 3,000 gallons used. Gerlach suggested no rate increases for rural water or storm sewer rates. The Council took no formal action on the recommended rates, but will discuss them at the next meeting. At that time Gerlach will also present recommendations on possible electric and gas increases.
The Council also continued its discussion on sidewalk repairs. They approved a proposal for repair by the homeowner at 202 East Market Street. The homeowner informed the Council he will make the repairs himself by May 15th. The Council also discussed repairs at 316 East Lane Street. No formal action was taken on the later repair, but the City will reach out to the homeowner for consultation on a plan going forward.
The Council then approved Chris Hastings and David Turner to the Planning & Zoning Board, and a contract with the State Archaeologist for $6,700 regarding a survey at the Lenon Mill Dam. The Council concluded the meeting with discussion on a housing needs assessment committee, composting and open burning, and the annual audit. No formal action was taken on those items.
