Forecasted wet weather for central Iowa this afternoon and evening has impacted the start time of today’s West Central Activities Conference Track and Field Meet in Ogden. Athletic Directors from the league agreed to move the start time of all events up an hour and 45 minutes in hopes of completing the meet before the weather turns. The National Weather Service in Des Moines is calling for a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms beginning after 1 p.m. with temperatures in the upper 70’s and wind gusts as high as 29 miles per hour. The Raccoon Valley Radio Network had West Central Valley boys track coach Eric Addy on last night’s Karl Chevrolet of Stuart Guthrie County PM Sports Page to preview today’s conference meet. Addy sees the earlier start time as a benefit for his athletes. “Obviously, the weather factor (in the change), it’ll be nicer, it will be warmer, and we won’t have to deal with the (weather) elements as much, so I think the guys will be ready.” Addy said, “A lot of the guys (on the track team) are football players, (and) I seem them on game day and about 2:45 p.m. they are itching to take the field and play football. I assume it’s going to be the same thing (today).”
The new start time for the field events of the WCAC meet is 2:45 p.m. with the running events beginning at 3:15 p.m. from Ogden High School. Listen to the Raccoon Valley Radio Network throughout the spring for cancelation and delay information of area sports and community events.
