As severe weather season begins, the National Weather Service is still looking for an official weather observer in Jefferson.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Frank Boksa says to be an observer, a resident is required to report rainfall and snowfall, along with the daily high and low temperatures. The observer will be given a rain gauge, a digital temperature reader and a snowboard to measure total snowfall. Boksa points out that they will install all of the equipment and maintain it as well. He adds they are flexible with the observer if they are going on vacation, the observer can designate another individual to make report to the National Weather Service until the observer returns. They will also provide information and instruction of how to use all of the equipment.
Interested individuals can contact Cooperative Program Manager Brad Fillbach at 515-270-4501.
