Greene County High School senior Megan Durbin became a four-time Heart of Iowa Activities Conference champion in the girls’ high jump by clearing a conference meet record-tying height of 5′ 4″. That was the only event victory for either Greene County team on Tuesday at Linduska Field in Jefferson. The meet was halted five minutes after starting by lightning. Action resumed 30 minutes later and continued until lightning and rain stopped it for good with 16 of the 19 events for both girls and boys completed.
North Polk (Alleman) won the girls’ team title with 129 points, followed by PCM (104), Gilbert 91, Greene County 85, Roland-Story (Story City) 61, Nevada 57, Saydel (Des Moines) 42, and 36 by South Hamilton (Jewell).
Gilbert won the team title for boys with 135 points. Nevada had 118 with 114.5 for NP, 67.5 by R-S, 52 for both Greene County and SH, 42 from Saydel, and 41 points for PCM.
The Greene County girls placed second four times. Durbin was second in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes, while Melanie Doran was second in the 400 meter hurdles, and the shuttle hurdle relay was also the runner-up. That relay had Sydney Schiltz, Izzy Bravard, Lilly Muir, and Doran.
There were no first or second place finishes for the Greene County boys.
