acgcAs the 2018 track and field season begins to enter the home stretch with conference and state qualifying meets, underclassmen are getting some of their first chances to make their mark. For ACGC girls head coach Colin Shawgo, two freshman in particular are standing out. Shawgo tells Raccoon Valley Radio Audrey Stowe and Emma Vogl are off to a great start in their track careers.

Stowe, who won the 400 meter hurdles at the Davis Relays in Perry this year, was not a surprise to Shawgo and assistant coach Lyndsey Noe. However, Vogl’s performance as of late has surprised both coaches. Shawgo explains how Vogl has turned her hesitancy at first into a successful season. “At the beginning of the season, she thought she wouldn’t be very good. She was really worried about that. This is her first year doing track so she didn’t know quite what was going on. But then throughout the season her times have just continuously dropped and they’ve dropped by exponential numbers from meet to meet. So her ability to grow has been really fun to see.”

Both girls are scheduled to run in the West Central Activities Conference meet in Ogden tomorrow, which was postponed due to weather.
