**Panorama head track coach Greg Thompson tells the Raccoon Valley Radio Network that tonight’s Panorama Relays is cancelled due to forecasted weather and won’t be made up. **
Several track and field teams from across central Iowa will descend on Panora today for the annual Panorama Relays. Panorama head track coach Greg Thompson said on Monday’s Karl Chevrolet of Stuart Guthrie County PM Sports Page that 13 boys teams and 12 girls squads will take part in the yearly co-ed event. Among the schools competing in the meet are West Central Activities Conference Schools AC/GC, Des Moines Christian, Earlham, and Van Meter.
During Monday’s PM Sports Page, Thompson mentioned it’s difficult having their home co-ed meet landing right after the conference meet. “Obviously, coming off of (the) conference (meet), it’s hard to get geared up for that one,” Thompson said, “We always try to the best we can and do some last minute fine-tuning and checking some things we can try for state qualifying.”
Tuesday’s West Central Activities Conference meet was postponed before the 4×800 meter relay due to severe weather and events are slated to resume sometime Friday. The Raccoon Valley Radio Network reached out to Thompson via email, and he said the district is tentatively keeping the meet as scheduled but will make a more concrete decision on the meets status early this afternoon based on today’s weather forecast. The National Weather Service is projecting a 70% chance of showers and thunderstorms for Panora starting after 1 p.m. with temperatures in the mid-70s and wind gusts between 14-22 miles per hour. Field events for the Panorama Relays will begin around 4:30 p.m. and running events are to start roughly 5 p.m. from Panorama Stadium in Panora. Listen to the Raccoon Valley Radio Network all spring for cancelation and delay information of area sports and community events.
