Both Greene County High School soccer teams played in tournaments on Saturday. Girls’ coach Marilyn Tasler reported to Raccoon Valley Radio the Rams went to Creston and won by forfeit vs. Centerville. Playing Boone and leading 1-0 with time running out the Toreadors scored with 1.2 seconds left in the second half to send the game into overtime. Neither team scored in OT and in came down to a shootout which went to Boone by a final score of 4-1. The Rams are 2-9 on the season. Freshman Makayla Kafer had the Greene County goal on a break away. “The girls are so close,” said the coach.
The Greene County boys went to the Bondurant-Farrar tournament and went 1-1 with a 1-0 victory over Grinnell, followed by a 4-2 loss to Newton. Coach Carl Behne told Raccoon Valley Radio he thought the team played well against larger schools. About the Newton match the coach added, “We had two go off the top post.” The Rams are 9-6 with less than two weeks remaining in the regular season.
