Greene County boys’ track & field head coach Chad Morton notified Raccoon Valley Radio that the Rams were going to Greenfield today for a meet that was not on the schedule. It’s one final opportunity to fine tune things before the Class 2A May 10 State Qualifying Meet the Rams go to in Manson. The Manson coed meet is where teams attempt to qualify events for the May 17-19 State Meet in Des Moines.
According to performances posted on the QuikStats website, the Rams have a handful of events that would appear to have realistic chances on the boys’ side to qualify for State. Those with the highest standing among the 12 teams at Manson are the high jump, long jump, 200 meter dash, 110 meter high hurdles, and 4 x 100 meter relay.
The Greene County girls have finished their regular season. Senior Megan Durbin continues to lead the entire state in the high jump with a best leap of 5′ 8″. Whichever four events Durbin is entered in, along with a few others, would seem to have the best opportunities for Coach Derek Merk’s squad to get into the State Meet.
