Greene County RamsWith the wacky winter season now behind us, there’s been a slight adjustment to this year’s school calendar for the Greene County School District.

Superintendent Tim Christensen says the 2018-19 school year has been extended by one day, due to weather cancellations and delays in the winter season. The last day of school is now Thursday, May 24th. Christensen points out the change in the calendar doesn’t affect the high school graduation ceremony, which is scheduled for Sunday, May 20th.

There was also a change that the School Board recently approved for next year’s school calendar. When the School Board originally approved the 2018-19 school calendar this past January, spring break was moved back a week, due to the Iowa High School Music Association State Solo and Small Ensemble Contest. Christensen says they wanted to help out those students, so spring break was scheduled for the week of March 11, 2019.

“But Mr. (David) Heupel did talk to me that he talked to Mr. (Al) Greiner from the Music Association. And we do have the capacity to move that state-level music contest that we host. Mr. Heupel recommended we do that. I surveyed staff and 82-percent of the staff recommended that we change spring break to coincide with (the University of) Iowa and Iowa State’s (spring break) and the Board did approve that.”

Spring break for the 2018-19 school year is now March 18th through the 22nd.
