The Jefferson City Council met Tuesday night in regular session.
The Council approved a temporary ordinance for when the Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) comes to Jefferson for an overnight stop on July 23rd. Part of the ordinance allows for booths for both for profit and non-profit organizations, along with suspending some no parking regulations while RAGBRAI participants are in town.
The Council then agreed to proceed with rehabbing a house. The project involves moving an 1890’s house from 305 West State Street to an empty lot at 407 West Lincoln Way. The property was recently purchased by Central Christian Church and they approached the City about saving the house or they would have it torn down. The City would invest $150,000 to move the house and rehab part of it. The house would then be owned by the City and the invested money would be recouped when someone bought it. Payment would come from the general fund. The Council will consider an agreement to acquire the house at a future meeting.
