The Perry City Council was once again pleasantly surprised by a local contractor who bid for a City project well under what they thought it was going to cost.
This time it was Harland Concrete, which was awarded the Park Street paving and widening project. Perry City Administrator Sven Peterson says the contractor’s facility is located on Park Street, and they were anxious to work on a project that would directly impact them. “We actually had a local contractor come in with a really great bid. Dave Harland with Harland Concrete came in well under the engineer’s estimate and really is going to help us out on the overall budget of this project. He’s been wanting this project done, so I think he was excited to be able to be a part of it.”
Harland submitted a bid of $67,840 for a project that was estimated to cost $105,000. They are the latest Perry contractor to give the City a substantial discount on a project. At a Council meeting in April, Landals Corporation was awarded the Wiese Park Trail improvement project by bidding $42,555, which was around 40% under the engineer’s estimate. Additionally, in February the City awarded the completion of the soccer complex project to local contractors No Lawn Left Behind for $15,654.80, well under the nearly $24,000 estimate.
The Park Street project is being done in conjunction with the Dallas County Secondary Roads Department, and includes widening the road by three feet on either side. Peterson says construction should begin soon, and is projected to be completed in late June or early July.
