The Adel City Council convened Tuesday evening in regular session.

One of the biggest topics of conversation centered around the proposed Highway 169 widening project. Adel City Clerk Jackie Steele says the Council approved an agreement between the City and McClure Engineering to do preliminary assessments for the project. The proposed area to be widened will be between Greenwood Hills Drive and 302nd Place, south of the City. Steele says they will schedule a public meeting to discuss the project, which will be held in the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn High School auditorium, though no date has been finalized yet.

The Council also approved two purchases recommended by the Street Committee. The first was for a road grader, which will cost around $97,000 after trade-in of the City’s old machine. The second was a crack sealing machine, which will cost $36,000. Both purchases became necessities following the recent annexation of 309 acres south of the City. Also related to the annex, the Council approved revisions to the City’s 28E agreement with Dallas County for road maintenance.

Other items approved included: appointing Ahlers and Cooney as the City Attorney; all three readings of an updated ordinance regarding kybos and dumpsters; and two pay estimates for phase one of the storm water utility improvements project for section one and two. Finally, the Council approved special event dates for the 2018 Dallas County Sheriff’s Office All Wheel Car Show, and the Sweet Corn Festival 5K Fun Run as presented.
