Multiple Class 2A track and field teams from across the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area will travel to southern Dallas County today for the final guaranteed competition of the season. The Van Meter Bulldogs are one of eight schools hosting Class 2A State Qualifying meets, inviting athletes from 11 regional schools to compete including Guthrie County Schools AC/GC, Panorama, and West Central Valley.
West Central Valley boys track and field coach Eric Addy joined the Karl Chevrolet of Stuart Guthrie County PM Sports Page this week to promote the upcoming state qualifying meet at Van Meter. Addy says his athletes like Van Meter’s facilities. “They like the field events (layout), how the ring, pits, and mats are set up,” Addy said, “They say its a pretty fast track (too) so hopefully we will put down some fast times as I’m sure everyone else will.”
The Class 2A state qualifying criteria include the top two performances from each event will automatically qualify for next week’s state meet at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. The Class 2A state meet also invites the next eight nonautomatic qualifying performances statewide to compete at the Blue Oval. Field events for tonight’s Class 2A State Qualifying meet start at 4 p.m. and running events commencing around 4:30 p.m. from Van Meter High School.
