The postseason begins today in high school boys golf as sectional tournaments commence across Iowa. In Menlo this morning, eight Class 2A golf programs will play 18 holes on the 5 x 80 Golf Course. Among those competing are Guthrie County schools AC/GC, Panorama, and West Central Valley. West Central Valley boys golf coach Dave Doely joined the Karl Chevrolet of Stuart Guthrie County PM Sports Page this week to promote today’s playoff opener. Doely feels his team’s had an up and down season at the 5 x 80 golf course. “It is an advantage being the home team there, and hopefully our kids understand that, and we can take advantage of it,” Doely said, “Our kids have played a bunch out there; they should know where their misses are, they should know what they can do individually.”
Panorama boys golf coach David Van Ahn was also a guest on Monday’s Guthrie County PM Sports Page and confirmed the top two scoring teams and the top three individuals who aren’t on the top two teams will advance to the sectional tournament next Friday at the Lake Panorama National Golf Course. “We’re down to the tournament series here,” Van Ahn said, “It’s going to be important for us to keep our minds sharp, focus, and play good golf.”
The Class 2A Sectional Golf Tournament tees off around 10 a.m. from the 5 x 80 Golf Course in Menlo.
