Anyone interested in learning how to spend money wisely at the grocery store, while also making healthy food choices, is invited to a special workshop next week in Jefferson.
The Greene County Extension office is hosting a “Spend Smart, Eat Smart” class. It will be led by Extension Nutrition and Wellness Specialist Ann Heuer. She will give a presentation on how to reduce food expenses, while making menu plans for food shopping. Then the class will head over to Hy-Vee where Heuer will give a tour and point out tips and strategies for making those economic, but healthy, food choices. Extension Families Coordinator Sue Richardson talks about an app that participants will also receive.
“You’ll get an app, that you can put on your phone, that everytime that you’re in the grocery store you can look at this and it will tell you what the foods contain and what is needed to have a healthy meal. It’ll give you recipes online that you can make for your family and a list of ingredients that goes with the recipes.”
It’ll be held on Tuesday, May 15th from 5:30 to 7pm at the Extension office. Cost to participate is $10 per person. Call or stop by the Extension office to sign up.
